World War II

World War II was a destructive conflict that involved most of the world during the years 1939 and 1945. A war between two powerful alliances  (the Allied Powers- USA, France, and Great Britain and the Axis Powers - Japan, Germany, and Italy) ended with about 75 million deaths worldwide. This war is also known as the deadliest military conflict in history.

During World War II, the US Military and Navy Forces were spread over two hemispheres. This made secret communication extremely important.                   (World War II, 1941. Facing History)

Ethnic Stereotypes

Indian Scout Syndrome: Historian Tom Holm describes it as a "conviction [that] attributes to Indian warriors the ability to detect the presence of an enemy from a bent blade of grass or to hide themselves in an open field. Some whites credited these abilities to a kind of genetic spirituality inherent among native peoples."

Warrior: In Native groups, being a warrior holds great cultural importance and respect from the community. The English word "Warrior" makes it seem like their only role is fighting enemies. However, being a warrior means doing anything to help their people survive, even if it means laying down their own lives.
